A guide to creating the ideal kitchen (Part 2)

August 19, 2010
Posted in Kitchen Design — Written by Mark

The last article dealt with storage considerations when designing a new kitchen space. Although storage is very important, it is not the be all and end all in this particular case. You must also think about work surfaces, practical additional elements and the atmosphere of your kitchen.

Work surfaces

Kitchen worktops are absolutely crucial elements in any kitchen. They represent the work surfaces that you will use for absolutely everything you do in the room, whether it is to do with food preparation, cooking, drinking or cleaning. For this reason, you must choose durable work surfaces.

Practical additional elements

You will obviously have to make plans regarding kitchen sinks and kitchen taps, but you can also incorporate some practical additional kitchen components alongside these. Things like waste disposal units and garbage organisers are good additions.

Kitchen atmosphere

You kitchen has to be nice enough for you to want to spend time in it. This doesn’t just mean selecting stylish kitchen cabinets and worktops. It also means setting the right mood. You can do this via your selections of kitchen lighting and heating. Designer radiators are great for this purpose and you can get underfloor heating and mood lighting as well.
