If you have a number of people in your household all competing for time in one bathroom, it can be incredibly difficult to share with everyone. The average household probably consists of two adults and two children, and when the kids grow up, they want to use the bathroom more and more. Unfortunately, they also want to use it at precisely the same times as their parents.
The morning is the worst time to have to compete for shower and bathroom time. It means people have to get up extra early and lose out on sleep just to get their ten minutes to wash and clean their teeth.
You can’t always make plans to install another bathroom and in any case that is a very large and expensive job, however you can think of other clever ways to smooth things over. One way of taking some of the pressure off the bathroom is to incorporate bathroom furniture into the bedroom.
Cloakroom units consist of a small sink atop a bathroom cabinet and they take up very little space. With the appropriate plumbing and a little mirror, you could hook a cloakroom unit up in the kids’ bedrooms so that they can wash and clean their teeth in their own rooms. They could also then keep the bathroom products they need in their own cabinets. You’ll still be competing for shower time, but you will really notice the improvement.

Some homeowners find themselves in a position to extend their kitchen as their family grows. They may even move house to accommodate extra family members, recognising the kitchen as one of the spaces that has to adapt to larger numbers. This is purely because more mouths to feed, means more food to prepare. It also means more bodies milling around the room when they have grown up a bit, often with everybody doing their own separate thing.
Unfortunately, upgrading in this fashion isn’t an option for everyone. For that reason, it is important to make the most of the space you have in your existing kitchen and change tack if you feel the room has to adapt with the times.
With bigger families, the more kitchen worktop space you have the better. Try and maximise that space by limiting things that take up too much room. Do you need a bulky microwave, for instance? Can you keep fruit bowls elsewhere? Consider whether you can downgrade your sink to a smaller unit if you already have a dishwasher.
Storage is another major issue. This time it is a question of maximising the space in your kitchen cabinets. Have regular clear-outs and don’t bow to the temptation to keep luxury items that you don’t use often in places that would be better used for foods and crocks that you use every day.

When space is at a premium you need clever storage solutions to help you get by. Our daily lives simply can’t do without certain things, all of which need a place in the home. However, some rooms face more of an issue in terms of storage than others. Take the bathroom, for instance.
On the face of it, the bathroom seems like quite a simple room. You only go in when you need to wash, apply make-up, shower or use the toilet. That means you aren’t in the bathroom for long periods of time.
Having said that, you do need to keep an awful lot of things in the bathroom, despite how little time you spend in there. There are products that can’t be kept anywhere else because it is simply inconvenient. For example, it would be a real hassle to keep soaps, shampoos, toilet rolls, toothpastes, medical supplies, spare towels, skincare products and bathroom cleaning products anywhere other than the bathroom.
What you need is to consider a range of bathroom cabinets, selecting the one which provides the most storage, but encroaches on the room the least. A bathroom cabinet with a mirrored door is a good option if you’ve little space, because you don’t have to find room for a mirror as well.
You should also look into towel racks and make the most of empty wall space.

We all know the feeling when you’re starting to feel your age. It’s those little aches and pains that come almost from nowhere that give the first signs, and you notice that you’re suddenly an awful lot more grateful for the time you get to spend in the bath!
It’s pretty amazing what a long, hot soak can do for your body. Steeping for half an hour can completely soothe all the little aches you’ve developed throughout the day – the neck ache from looking at computer screens; the back ache from driving to and from work and so on.
That’s not the only benefit of a good bath. It can also help to calm your spirits and clear your head so that you can enjoy the time you spend relaxing outside of work.
With this in mind, it might be worth upgrading your bath to get even more from it. A hydrotherapy bath can make a huge difference in your bathroom. These baths make use of little jets that target the points on your body that need soothing, effectively providing a form of massage.
After installing a hydrotherapy bath, the only thing you’ll have to worry about is keeping the rest of the family out of it for long enough to enjoy it yourself!

Life on a budget isn’t easy, especially when it comes to maintaining your home. However, there are ways you can make home improvements without breaking the bank. The extra peace of mind and comfort that living in a nice, attractive and practical home can offer you day by day can barely be measured.
First of all, you have to concentrate on the rooms that you feel will significantly benefit you day-to-day. For many people this is the kitchen; for others it is the bathroom; for others it is the bedroom or living room.
Once you have identified the rooms that most need improvement, you should focus on replacing the more expensive, but essential items. In the kitchen this would be the appliances and kitchen sink. There is no point spending your budget on less essential things if any of these things aren’t functioning properly. In the bedroom, your focus ought to be the bed. In your bathroom, it should be the sink, bath, shower and toilet.
After you have taken this step, it is time to ring the cosmetic changes. You can transform your kitchen by buying new kitchen doors and worktops, without warranting a massive redesign. In other rooms, a lick of paint, new wall decorations and a couple of new items of furniture can make a huge impact.
You can make your house an ideal home without it costing the Earth by careful consideration of what needs changing.

Aside from the bathroom, there is one other particularly obvious choice of room that has to be functional as soon as you move into a new house. Life without a fully-functional kitchen, or even a kitchen that isn’t quite comfortable, can be a nightmare.
The kitchen
You need to be able to prepare food easily and comfortably as a basic part of your daily routine. Sometimes, when you move into a new home the kitchen really isn’t up to scratch. Often, the state of the kitchen is the reason you might have been able to afford the house, as a functional kitchen is a real money-spinner.
You simply have to spare some of your budget to sort the kitchen out. You will be able to find purely practical elements to help you enjoy the new house in the shape of cheap kitchen worktops, cheap kitchen cabinets, cheap sinks and taps and kitchen handles. At this stage you want to be able to get the kitchen whipped into shape enough to use – it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Of course, if you can spare a little more money then you can build a beautiful kitchen that will really last, but if you’re just getting started then you need to cover the basics first.

The bathroom
It is important to think about the rooms that absolutely have to be functional for you from the moment you move in. The bathroom is a really obvious choice and ought to take priority. After all, it isn’t going to trouble you greatly if your bedroom and living room are a little messy for a while, but if you can’t wash in comfort it’ll get you down.

There are a couple of different reasons someone might want to let a property. On the one hand, they may be looking to make an investment that will bring them in some extra money. This is great if you have the capital to spend on a second property. On the other hand, when a couple move in together, one of them may be leaving their property behind. Instead of parting with it completely, it can be rented out so that it pays for itself and does not have to be sold until those involved are ready to get rid of it.
In order to make sure that your property is appealing to prospective tenants, one of the rooms that requires some attention is the bathroom.
A clean, attractive and well-furnished bathroom can be the difference between a deal being made or not. Invest in practical bathroom furniture options. Draw people in with the promise of really invigorating bathroom showers and a comfortable layout. It is a major put-off for potential tenants if the bathroom is neither functional nor attractive.
Towel warmers, bathroom cabinets, mirrors, neat shelving and easily-maintained bathroom suites all contribute to improving your chances of securing a tenant.
