Getting your new home up to scratch (Part 2)

February 26, 2010
Posted in Kitchen Advice — Written by Becky

Aside from the bathroom, there is one other particularly obvious choice of room that has to be functional as soon as you move into a new house. Life without a fully-functional kitchen, or even a kitchen that isn’t quite comfortable, can be a nightmare.

The kitchen

You need to be able to prepare food easily and comfortably as a basic part of your daily routine. Sometimes, when you move into a new home the kitchen really isn’t up to scratch. Often, the state of the kitchen is the reason you might have been able to afford the house, as a functional kitchen is a real money-spinner.

You simply have to spare some of your budget to sort the kitchen out. You will be able to find purely practical elements to help you enjoy the new house in the shape of cheap kitchen worktops, cheap kitchen cabinets, cheap sinks and taps and kitchen handles. At this stage you want to be able to get the kitchen whipped into shape enough to use – it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Of course, if you can spare a little more money then you can build a beautiful kitchen that will really last, but if you’re just getting started then you need to cover the basics first.
