Many different types of kitchen sinks and fittings

September 2, 2009
Posted in Kitchen Advice — Written by Becky

In the earlier days, kitchen sinks used to have a single rectangle basin with standard knobs and taps. However, kitchens today are not just about their function but also about their design and beauty. Depending on your style preferences and specific needs, you can easily select from the hundreds of available models.

Some kitchens are more demanding than others and need extra space for cleaning and cooking. Others, who do not use their kitchen much, can get a smaller sink area, particularly in apartments and condos. Designs cover an entire spectrum of needs, with sinks that are available in single, double, triple bowls or corner sink units that help you to save your valuable counter space in a crowded area.

Sinks available today can be made from a selection of different materials. However, standard stainless steel sinks are widely seen in most households as they are easy to clean, stain resistant, durable and extremely cost effective. On the higher end of the designer scale, there are materials like granite, acrylic and fireclay that add an attractive touch to your kitchen.

Acrylic sinks come in several colours, and some of them even come with an anti-microbial surface that can help to fight damage caused by mildew, bacteria and mould. These sinks also come in different sizes and shapes as well. Kitchen sinks can be oval, rectangle, square or round and can be configured from side to side as most are. They can even be presented in a diamond or L shape, depending on the available space in your kitchen and your personal preferences.
